Use of DataThe Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center (HMC), officially the "Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center" State Non-Commercial Organization (SNCO), is Armenia's national meteorological and environmental monitoring authority. It operates under the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Armenia and is responsible for monitoring and assessing the quality of atmospheric air, surface water and groundwater, atmospheric precipitation, soil, and bottom sediments across Armenia.
Hydrometeorological observation activities in Armenia date to 1930. The center as an institutional entity was formed in 2002 through a reorganization of the former Armstatehydromet, which had itself merged the Meteorological Department (est. 1992) and the Center for Applied Hydrometeorology and Ecology (est. 1992). Since 2002, the center has been registered as a State Non-Commercial Organization. In 2009, the organization received the annual Armenian Government Award for "Providing Product and Service Quality." The center is situated in Yerevan, with addresses at both Kentron (46 Charents St.) and a monitoring facility at Paruyr Sevak St. Staff maintain regular data exchange with international meteorological networks.
The HMC produces and publishes daily hydrometeorological bulletins covering rivers, lakes, and reservoirs of Armenia, including Lake Sevan. It provides quantitative data on national water resources and conducts monitoring of air, water, precipitation, and soil quality. The center's data is used for disaster risk reduction, environmental policy development, and public safety communications. Historical hydrometeorological records from Armenia form part of its scientific holdings.
The center's data and bulletins are accessible through its official website (armmonitoring.am) and through the Ministry of Environment's portal. Contact can be made by phone or through the official website. The center operates Monday through Friday, 09:00–18:00.
