HONOLULU Magazine is a monthly city and lifestyle magazine covering Honolulu and the wider Hawaii region. It is the oldest magazine in the state of Hawaii and is published by PacificBasin Communications (part of aio Media Group).
Dates to 1888, when King David Kalakaua commissioned a magazine under royal charter, Paradise of the Pacific, to serve as Hawaii's ambassador to the world. In 1966 it was renamed HONOLULU Magazine and refocused on stories for the people of the Islands rather than as an outward-facing tourism vehicle. David Pelligrin acquired the title through his Honolulu Publishing Company in 1977. In 2001, Duane Kurisu, owner of PacificBasin Communications, acquired the magazine from Honolulu Publishing Company.
Established the Hale Aina Awards, Hawaii's first local restaurant awards, in 1984. Has won more than 60 local and national awards since 2010, including the City and Regional Magazine Association's General Excellence Award.
