Hindustan (also known as Hindustan Dainik) is an Indian Hindi-language daily newspaper published by Hindustan Media Ventures Limited, a subsidiary of HT Media Limited. It has 21 editions across the Hindi-speaking belt of northern India, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Haryana and Uttarakhand.
Launched in 1936 by independence activist Madan Mohan Malaviya, who also chaired the Hindustan Times from 1924 to 1946. Hindustan was spun off from HT Media into a separate publisher, Hindustan Media Ventures Limited, in December 2009.
Ranked as India's second most-read Hindi daily by circulation, and the dominant Hindi paper in Bihar, where it commands roughly 73 percent of Hindi readership. Reporter Rajdev Ranjan was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting on May 13, 2016, while reporting for the paper in Bihar.
