Ownership

Hello Sunshine was majority-acquired in August 2021 by Candle Media, a media roll-up backed by the private equity firm Blackstone and led by former Disney executives Kevin Mayer and Tom Staggs, for approximately $900 million. Founder Reese Witherspoon and executive Sarah Harden retained a stake and board seats. As of 2025, Blackstone and Candle Media were reported to be exploring strategic options, including a possible merger, for Hello Sunshine.

History

Founded in 2016 by Reese Witherspoon and investor Seth Rodsky, initially as a partnership with Peter Chernin's Chernin Group and AT&T via their Otter Media venture.
