The Hawassa University Institutional Repository is the official open-access digital repository of Hawassa University (HU), one of Ethiopia's leading public universities. Accessible at etd.hu.edu.et, it serves as the primary archive for the university's electronic theses, dissertations, and other scholarly output.
Hawassa University was established in 1976 as Awassa Junior College of Agriculture, with an initial intake of 217 students. It was re-established as a comprehensive university in 2000 through the merger of three colleges. Today it is one of the top-ranking universities in Ethiopia, operating seven campuses with over 40,000 students and more than 7,000 academic and administrative staff. The university is located in Hawassa, the capital of the Sidama Region in southern Ethiopia.
The repository collects, preserves, and provides open access to theses, dissertations, research articles, and institutional publications produced by Hawassa University's eight colleges and two institutes. It is part of Ethiopia's broader academic repository ecosystem, with Hawassa University also represented in the National Academic Digital Repository of Ethiopia (NADRE) at nadre.ethernet.edu.et. The platform supports the university's mission to become one of the top ten research universities in East Africa.
The repository is freely accessible online at etd.hu.edu.et. Submissions follow standard DSpace procedures. The Directorate of Library and Documentation Services (LDSD) manages the repository and broader library services.
