Hawaii Tribune-Herald is a daily broadsheet newspaper based in Hilo, Hawaii, serving the Hilo area of the Big Island. It is owned and published by Oahu Publications, Inc.
Traces to the Hilo Tribune, first published Nov. 23, 1895, by a company headed by Gardner K. Wilder. A rival, the Hawaii Herald, launched in 1896, and The Hawaii Post followed in 1914. The Herald and Post merged in 1918 to form the Daily Post-Herald; in 1923 the Tribune and Post-Herald merged to form the Hilo Tribune-Herald, renamed Hawaii Tribune-Herald on March 2, 1964, when the Donrey Media Group bought it from Honolulu Star-Bulletin Publishing Co. Donrey was renamed Stephens Media in 2002. Oahu Publications Inc., publisher of the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, bought the Hawaii Tribune-Herald and its sister paper West Hawaii Today from Stephens Media in 2014.
