Use of DataGothamist launched in 2003 is a nonprofit news and culture blog site based in New York, New York. It operated under Gothamist LLC until 2018 with satellite blog sites in eight other cities.
Billionaire Joe Ricketts purchased Gothamist in 2017. After the employees voted to unionize, Ricketts shut the operation down.
New York Public Radio, WAMU, and KPCC jointly purchased Gothamist and relaunched the website and two of its satellites, LAist and DCist. SAG-AFTRA. in 2019, recognized the Gothamist employee union.
