The School offers postgraduate degrees including MA Journalism, MA Broadcast Journalism, MA/MSc Digital Journalism, MA Investigative Journalism, MA Political Communications, and MRes Media and Communications, alongside undergraduate degrees and PhD/MPhil research degrees in Media, Communications and Cultural Studies.
The School is organized into subject areas including Strategic Communications and Journalism, Media Arts and Screen, and Media and Culture. It works closely with the Centre for Investigative Journalism and the Media Reform Coalition, and is home to East London Lines, a 24/7 news website run by students. In the 2021 UK Research Excellence Framework, the department ranked second in the UK for research judged 4* or 3* quality.
Goldsmiths' media teaching has been organized for decades as the Department of Media, Communications and Cultural Studies, drawing on the college's tradition of combining critical and creative practice. The department has more recently been reorganized as a School within Goldsmiths, with journalism-specific teaching grouped under a Strategic Communications and Journalism subject area.
