Glossy is a digital trade publication covering the fashion, luxury and beauty industries, published by Digiday Media.
Glossy is a digital trade publication reporting on how technology, retail and consumer behavior are reshaping the fashion, luxury and beauty industries. It is one of four editorial brands operated by Digiday Media, alongside Digiday, Modern Retail and Worklife. Glossy publishes news and analysis on its website, distributes newsletters, produces the Glossy Podcast and a weekly Week in Review podcast, and operates a paid membership program, Glossy+, offering subscribers access to premium content and events.
Glossy launched May 2, 2016, as Digiday Media's second editorial brand, following Digiday itself, which founder Nick Friese launched in 2008 to cover digital disruption in media and marketing. Glossy was created to apply that same approach to fashion and luxury retail, under founding editor-in-chief Jill Manoff and managing editor Hilary Milnes. In 2018, Glossy expanded its dedicated beauty-industry coverage and launched Glossy+, its subscription membership program, providing members unlimited access to stories, exclusive events and premium content.
Digiday Media has since grown to operate four brands—Digiday, Glossy, Modern Retail and Worklife. On January 11, 2024, the company named David Amrani, who had served as its chief operating officer for a decade, as its new chief executive officer, succeeding founder Nick Friese, who transitioned into the role of chairman. Jill Manoff, Glossy's founding editor-in-chief, has since taken on the additional role of editor-in-chief of Modern Retail.
2016–presentGlossy created and operates a set of industry recognition programs—including the Glossy Beauty Awards, Glossy Pop Awards, Glossy Beauty and Wellness Awards, and Glossy Future Leader Awards—that have become benchmarks within the fashion and beauty industries. The 2025 Glossy Beauty and Wellness Awards named Hailey Bieber's brand Rhode as Beauty Brand of the Year, following the brand's roughly $1 billion acquisition by e.l.f. Beauty and what Glossy described as the biggest beauty-brand debut in Sephora North America history.
2023Glossy published original reporting examining the rise of organized retail crime targeting beauty and fashion retailers, drawing on interviews with private investigators and California Highway Patrol officials involved in specific enforcement cases against alleged fencing operations.
2024Glossy's Week in Review podcast, hosted by senior fashion reporter Danny Parisi and international reporter Zofia Zwieglinska, provided ongoing coverage of labor and supply-chain allegations against fast-fashion retailer Shein alongside the company's IPO process.
