Full Fact is a British fact-checking charity based in London that checks claims made by politicians, the media and pressure groups, and pushes for public corrections of inaccurate statements.
Full Fact was founded in 2009 by businessman Michael Samuel and Will Moy, who became the charity's first director, and launched publicly in 2010. An initial application for charitable status was refused by the Charity Commission in 2009 and rejected again on appeal in 2011 on the grounds that its stated objective of "civic engagement" was too political; charitable status was granted in 2014 after the objective was revised to "the advancement of public education." The International Fact Checking Network certified Full Fact as a fact-checker in March 2017. Will Moy resigned as director in April 2023 and was succeeded by Chris Morris in September 2023.
Full Fact contributed evidence to the 2012 Leveson Inquiry into press standards and has developed AI-powered fact-checking tools used by more than 40 fact-checking organizations across 30 countries, including partnerships with Africa Check, Dubawa and the Arab Fact-Checking Network to support election monitoring in Nigeria and across the Middle East and North Africa.
