Fernandina Beach, Florida, USA
The News-Leader is a newspaper serving Fernandina Beach and Nassau County, Florida, published Wednesdays and Fridays. It bills itself as Florida's oldest continually published weekly newspaper.
The paper traces its founding to Senator David L. Yulee, who first published it August 9, 1854. Its lineage includes mergers and name changes across the 20th century, including the Fernandina News, the Fernandina News-Record, the Nassau County Leader and Fernandina News-Record, and simply the Nassau County Leader by 1925. The New York Times Company owned the paper before Community Newspapers, Inc., based in Athens, Georgia, purchased it in September 2000 along with the Lake City Reporter, the Nassau County Record and the Palatka Daily News.
