The Ethiopia GeoPortal is a country-specific subsite of Esri's Africa GeoPortal, a community geospatial data platform launched in 2019 to connect GIS users across the African continent. Powered by Esri's ArcGIS technology, the portal provides access to geospatial data, tools, and learning resources relevant to Ethiopia and the broader African region.
The Africa GeoPortal was launched by Esri in early 2019 to address the lack of a unified continental platform for sharing geospatial data in Africa. It combines content from the ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World (curated for Africa) with community-contributed datasets and access to tools including ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Collector, Survey123, StoryMaps, and Insights. Esri provides complimentary accounts to single users working in Africa or on Africa-based geospatial challenges.
The Ethiopia GeoPortal is a dedicated sub-portal at ethiopia.africageoportal.com. Users can discover, contribute, and work with geospatial data relevant to Ethiopia — including government statistical data, infrastructure layers, health facility locations, land use, and environmental datasets. The portal supports data discovery, map creation, and application building, and integrates tools for data science and analysis via notebook environments.
The portal is freely accessible online. Users can create a complimentary account to contribute data, build maps, and develop solutions. Some datasets may require an Esri subscription. The portal is relevant for researchers, planners, government agencies, NGOs, and others working on Ethiopian geographic and development challenges.
