The Ely Times is a newspaper serving Ely and White Pine County, Nevada, covering local government, mining industry news, and community events in the eastern Nevada high desert.
The paper's predecessor, the Ely Daily Times, was started in 1920 by Vail M. Pittman. Ownership passed to Times Printing and Publishing Company in 1930, and Pittman returned as editor and publisher in 1938. Pittman retired from publishing in 1951, selling the Ely Daily Times and the Ely Record (the Mining Record) to Donald W. Reynolds, owner of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Ely's newspaper history traces back further to the White Pine News, which began in the mining boomtown of Treasure City in 1868 and moved among several eastern Nevada towns before settling permanently in Ely in 1888.
The paper covers White Pine County Sheriff's reports, City of Ely Council and County Commission meetings, and local sports and community events.
