It was established by the NaUKMA Library and officially registered in the Registry of Open Access Repositories (ROAR) in March 2010. The repository was developed as part of the university's strategic priority to build research and knowledge-transfer capacity and to support open access dissemination of academic outputs. eKMAIR is built on the DSpace platform and complies with Open Access Initiative (OAI) standards. The project was championed by librarian Tetiana Yaroshenko, who published research on the repository's establishment.
eKMAIR preserves and provides access to the scholarly and academic output of NaUKMA's faculty, researchers, doctoral students, postgraduates, and students. The collection includes journal articles, books and book chapters, theses and dissertations, conference papers, and other digital materials. Content covers a broad range of disciplines reflecting NaUKMA's academic profile, including humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, technology, and health.
eKMAIR is freely accessible online without registration. All deposited materials are available for download. The repository is organized by faculty and research unit, and metadata is harvestable via OAI-PMH protocol for integration with international research discovery systems.
