Biography

Kyle Garcia Takata is a reporter at The Press Democrat in Santa Rosa, California, covering local news including public safety. He is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, where he joined the independent student newspaper The Daily Californian in fall 2021 as a staff photographer. He went on to serve as deputy photo editor in spring 2023, head photo editor later that year, and head social media editor in 2024, before being elected editor in chief and president of The Daily Californian for the 2024–25 academic year. During his time at the paper he also worked as a news reporter, layout designer, copy editor, and development analyst. His byline has also appeared in the San Luis Obispo Tribune and the Baltimore Sun.
