DeSmog - board member
Rosalind (Ros) Donald is an assistant professor of climate, environmental justice, media and communication at American University's School of Communication, where she is also an associate director of the Center for Environmental Filmmaking. Born in Bexhill-on-Sea in the southeast of England, she began her career as a journalist before moving into research, growing dissatisfied with mainstream narratives about climate change. Before her doctoral studies, she was deputy editor of Carbon Brief, a climate science and policy website, where she specialized in climate communication and disinformation. She holds a Ph.D. in communications from Columbia University, where her dissertation, later titled "Greenlining," examined segregation and environmental policy in Miami from the New Deal to the present climate crisis; she was subsequently a postdoctoral associate in environmental justice and communication at the University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science. Donald's research and writing examine how journalists, filmmakers, city planners and community groups communicate about environmental injustice, and she serves on the board of the investigative climate-journalism outlet DeSmog. Her book, "Greenlining: Segregation and Environmental Policies in Miami from the New Deal to the Climate Crisis," is under contract with Columbia University Press.
