Digiday is a trade publication and media community covering digital media, marketing, advertising and retail, and the founding brand of Digiday Media.
Digiday is a New York-based trade publication and media community covering digital media, marketing, advertising and retail industries. It publishes daily news through newsletters including Digiday Daily, Digiday Brands and Digiday Publishing, hosts industry conferences and awards programs, and produces the Digiday Podcast. Digiday is the founding, original brand of Digiday Media, whose portfolio has since expanded to include Glossy, Modern Retail and Worklife.
Founder Nick Friese launched what became Digiday on April 1, 2008, then operating as DM2 Events (Digital Media and Marketing Events). With support from Doug Carlson, managing director of the technology company Zinio, Friese organized the company's first event, the Digital Publishing and Advertising Conference, in June 2008 at a New York City hotel, drawing roughly 300 publishers and technology providers. A colleague helped shorten Friese's proposed name "Digital-Day" into "Digiday." Brian Morrissey, whom Friese met in 2010, joined as editor-in-chief in 2011 after moving over from Adweek, helping build out Digiday's daily publishing operation alongside its events business.
By 2016, Digiday had held more than 250 events since its founding and operated with about 60 employees across offices in New York, London and Tokyo, without having taken outside investment beyond a small early angel round. In May 2016, the company launched Glossy, its first sister publication, followed later by Modern Retail and Worklife, consolidating under the name Digiday Media. Brian Morrissey departed Digiday in September 2020 to launch the newsletter The Rebooting; Jim Cooper, who had joined as Digiday's managing editor that June after serving as editorial director at Adweek, succeeded him as editor-in-chief in October 2020. On January 11, 2024, Digiday Media named David Amrani, the company's chief operating officer of 10 years, as its new CEO, with Friese transitioning to the role of founder and chairman.
2017–presentDigiday's "Confessions" series, a recurring anonymously sourced interview franchise, trades subjects' identities for candor about problems inside the advertising and media industries—covering agency executives, marketers and ad-tech insiders. The series has run continuously for years and remains active, with new installments published as recently as August 2026.
2016–presentDigiday created and operates the Digiday Media Awards, an industry recognition program for publishers, marketers and agencies. Past winners recognized by the program include The Markup's 2023 award-winning investigation into hospital websites sharing patient data with Facebook via tracking pixels, and Fortune Media's 2024 award-winning "Inside Elon's Universe" investigative digital edition.
2008–2016Digiday grew from a single New York conference into a company that had produced more than 250 events and expanded to offices in New York, London and Tokyo by 2016, doing so without taking outside investment beyond a small early angel round, according to founder Nick Friese.
