David Dayen is executive editor of The American Prospect. He grew up in and around Philadelphia and earned a degree in English from the University of Michigan. Dayen worked for fifteen years as a television producer and video editor - first in Philadelphia, Chicago, and San Francisco, then in Los Angeles from 2002 - before transitioning to journalism. He has written for Salon, The Intercept, The New Republic, The Fiscal Times, The New York Times, Vice, and In These Times, among other outlets, and became executive editor of The American Prospect in 2019. In 2024 he launched the podcast Organized Money with antitrust researcher Matt Stoller. He is the author of Chain of Title: How Three Ordinary Americans Uncovered Wall Street's Great Foreclosure Fraud (2016) and Monopolized: Life in the Age of Corporate Power (2020), and won the 2021 Hillman Prize for excellence in magazine journalism.
