DataverseNO (dataverse.no) is Norway's national generalist repository for open research data from all academic disciplines. The repository is owned and operated by UiT The Arctic University of Norway on behalf of a national consortium of 16 partner institutions. Its technical infrastructure is based on the open-source Dataverse software developed by Harvard University.
DataverseNO was launched in 2017 as a national service for Norwegian research institutions. From the outset, it has been committed to providing a reliable data repository aligned with international standards for good data management, including the FAIR principles. In 2020, DataverseNO became one of the first national data repository services in the world to receive CoreTrustSeal certification as a Trusted Digital Repository, and it is currently renewing that certification. As of 2024, the repository is a collaboration between 16 partner institutions and has published more than 200 datasets from NTNU University Library alone.
DataverseNO accepts research data submissions from researchers affiliated with Norwegian research institutions. Datasets are organized into institutional collections and special collections. All disciplines are covered. Metadata from DataverseNO is indexed by major discovery services including B2FIND, BASE, DataCite Search, and Google Dataset Search. Researchers affiliated with Norwegian institutions that are not DataverseNO partners receive up to 10 GB of free storage.
DataverseNO is publicly accessible for searching and downloading published datasets. Data deposit requires registration. Datasets submitted to the top-level collection are curated by qualified Research Data Service staff at UiT. Each institutional collection is curated by data curators employed at the partner institutions, typically library staff. UiT leads a national curation network for FAIR research data in Norway.
