DataON National Research Data Platform (KISTI)

Overview

DataON is South Korea's National Research Data Platform, developed and operated by the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI). Launched in January 2020, the platform provides integrated access to research data from Korean publicly funded research projects, supporting nationwide data sharing and utilization.

KISTI Background

KISTI (Korean: 한국과학기술정보연구원) is a government-funded research institute under the Ministry of Science and ICT of South Korea, headquartered at 245 Daehak-ro, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, in the Daedeok Science Town. Founded in 1962 as the Korean Science and Technological Information Center, it underwent its most recent reorganization in 2002 when it merged with the Korea Research and Development Information Center. KISTI supports national R&D through science and technology information services, data analytics, and high-performance computing.

DataON's Collections and Functions

DataON provides integrated metadata search across KISTI's own research data holdings and domestic and international data sources. The platform enables researchers to: search for research data across all scientific fields; register and cite their own research results; build communities among researchers for collaborative work; and perform one-stop data analysis in an integrated analytics environment. Datasets from Korean government-funded research projects are systematically collected and cataloged within the platform in line with Korea's National Research Data Sharing and Utilization Strategy and the world's first Research Data Law enacted by the Korean government.

Access and Usage

DataON is freely accessible online at dataon.kisti.re.kr. The platform aligns with FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data principles and is integrated with other KISTI services including ScienceON and the National Science & Technology Information Service (NTIS).
