Overview

Data Online BMKG (dataonline.bmkg.go.id) is the official web-based data service portal of Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, dan Geofisika — BMKG). It provides registered users with access to meteorological, climatological, and geophysical (MKG) data collected from observational stations across Indonesia.

The BMKG

BMKG is an Indonesian non-departmental government agency under the Ministry of Science and ICT, headquartered in Jakarta. Its history traces back to 1841, when individual observations were conducted by Dr. Onnen in Bogor. It was formally established as a government institution in 1866 by the Dutch East Indies government as the Magnetisch en Meteorologisch Observatorium. The agency's current name was established on 6 September 2008. BMKG maintains 181 meteorological, climatological, and geophysical stations across the archipelago.

Collections and Data Holdings

The Data Online portal serves as the central distribution channel for MKG data and provides access to: daily, hourly, and monthly climate processed and raw data (including temperature, precipitation, wind, and humidity); radar imagery; satellite imagery; lightning data; weather forecast model outputs; and historical climate datasets going back decades. Data are used extensively by universities, government ministries and agencies, private sector organizations, and the general public.

Access and Usage

Access to the portal requires user registration. Registered users include internal BMKG staff as well as external users from universities, government ministries, private organizations, and the general public. The portal contact email is dataonline@bmkg.go.id.
