DataIndex.us, also known as America’s Data Index, is a collaborative civic data initiative created to monitor changes in U.S. federal datasets and the public information infrastructure that supports research, policy, and accountability. Launched in 2025, the project tracks when government datasets are updated, altered, moved, or removed, helping journalists, advocates, policymakers, and researchers understand what is happening to key sources of public data in real time. Rather than serving as an archive itself, DataIndex.us functions as a monitoring and transparency tool—documenting shifts in federal data availability and providing early warning when critical information may be at risk.
