Overview

Data Catalog Armenia (available at data.opendata.am) is a community-driven open data catalog for Armenia and the Armenian diaspora, created and maintained by the Open Data Armenia team. It is built on CKAN, the world's leading open-source data portal platform.

History and Mission

The catalog was created by Open Data Armenia, a community organization whose mission is to develop the open data community in Armenia and the diaspora, organize hackathons and conferences, and provide services related to data collection, analysis, and visualization. The catalog searches, obtains, and registers all available open data related to Armenia and the Armenian language and culture.

Collections and Holdings

The catalog encompasses datasets across a wide range of topics including culture, language, government, water resources, electoral data, geographic information, and demographic indicators. Collections of particular interest include Armenian language corpora, datasets for Armenian NLP (including handwritten text recognition and BERT models), cultural and historical site data, and data from the Armenian Public Radio. The catalog includes data from both official sources and community contributors worldwide.

Access and Usage

The catalog is freely accessible online at data.opendata.am. Users can browse datasets by topic group (such as culture, geography, government) or search by keyword. Datasets are provided in various formats and many link to raw data files or external sources. The platform also supports API access in line with CKAN standards.
