Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India (print/digital)
Dainik Jagran is a Hindi-language daily newspaper published by Jagran Prakashan Limited, among the most widely read newspapers in India, concentrated in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and other Hindi-speaking states.
The paper was founded on September 16 or 21, 1942 (sources vary on the exact date), in Jhansi, in what was then the United Provinces, by Puran Chandra Gupta, along with J.C. Arya and Gurudev, during the Quit India Movement. A second edition launched in Kanpur in 1947, followed by Rewa (1953) and Bhopal (1956). Jagran Prakashan Private Limited was incorporated on July 18, 1975, later becoming Jagran Prakashan Limited. The trademark rights to the Dainik Jagran name have been the subject of an ongoing family dispute since 2007 between descendants of the three founding families.
Dainik Jagran publishes editions across roughly 11 Indian states. Jagran Prakashan also acquired Mid-Day in 2010 and Nai Dunia in 2012, and publishes titles including iNext, Punjabi Jagran, and Inquilab.
Dainik Jagran is available through print circulation and online at jagran.com.
