Daily Mail

The Daily Mail is a British daily middle-market tabloid newspaper published in London, taking a conservative editorial stance, and owned by the Daily Mail and General Trust (DMGT).

The paper was founded on May 4, 1896, by brothers Alfred Harmsworth (later Viscount Northcliffe) and Harold Harmsworth (later Viscount Rothermere). It cost half a penny at launch, undercutting rival London dailies that cost a full penny, and quickly built a large readership. A Scottish edition launched in 1947, a sister Sunday paper, The Mail on Sunday, launched in 1982, and an Irish edition followed in 2006. DMGT was taken private in December 2021 following a buyout led by Rothermere Continuation Limited, the Rothermere family's investment vehicle; Jonathan Harmsworth, 4th Viscount Rothermere, remains chairman and controlling shareholder.

The paper's content also appears on the MailOnline news website, which is managed with its own separate editorial team. Ted Verity has served as editor of Mail newspapers since November 2021.
