Northampton, Massachusetts (print/digital)
The Daily Hampshire Gazette is a six-day morning daily newspaper based in Northampton, Massachusetts, covering Hampshire County, southern Franklin County, and Holyoke, and is the longest-running daily newspaper in Massachusetts.
The paper traces to September 6, 1786, when the weekly Hampshire Gazette first published, including news of Shays' Rebellion. The Daily Hampshire Gazette began daily publication on November 1, 1890. The Gazette was purchased by Newspapers of New England, based in Concord, New Hampshire, which also owns The Recorder of Greenfield. In late 2007, Newspapers of New England acquired the competing alternative weekly Valley Advocate, which ceased print publication in March 2020 to go online only. In November 2018, staff at the Gazette and Valley Advocate formed a union with the NewsGuild-Communications Workers of America.
Gazette newsrooms also publish the weekly Amherst Bulletin, serving towns east of Northampton including Amherst, Deerfield, Hadley, Leverett, Pelham, Shutesbury, and Sunderland.
The Gazette publishes Monday through Saturday in print and online at gazettenet.com.
