Consequence is an independently owned online publication covering music, film and television news, reviews and interviews, headquartered in New York and operated by Consequence Media.
The outlet launched in September 2007 as Consequence of Sound, founded by Alex Young while he was a journalism student at Fordham University; it took its original name from a Regina Spektor song. Michael Roffman became editor-in-chief in January 2008. The site expanded into film coverage in 2014 and was reorganized under Consequence Media in 2016. In 2018, Consequence launched its podcast network, which averaged more than 100,000 downloads in its first month, followed by a partnership with Sony Music on the podcast series "The Opus" in 2019. The publication rebranded from Consequence of Sound to Consequence in April 2021, with Gab Ginsberg named managing editor. In 2023, Consequence Media acquired Modern Drummer magazine.
Consequence broke news of Paul McCartney and the Killers headlining the 2009 Coachella festival ahead of the official lineup announcement and was first to report LCD Soundsystem's 2015 reunion tour.
