Columbia Journal (formally Columbia: A Journal of Literature and Art) is an annual literary magazine publishing fiction, nonfiction, poetry, translation and visual art, produced by students in Columbia University's School of the Arts MFA Writing Program.
The magazine was founded in 1977 by graduate students in Columbia's Writing Program. It has since published work by Nobel laureates alongside emerging writers, including Raymond Carver, Lorrie Moore, Louise Glück, Noam Chomsky and Etgar Keret.
The magazine publishes an annual spring print issue combining solicited work with the winners of its annual contest, alongside a continuously updated online edition featuring reviews and interviews.
Editorial leadership rotates among Columbia University MFA Writing Program students each year.
Columbia Journal serves readers and writers interested in contemporary literary fiction, nonfiction, poetry and visual art, with submissions open to writers both affiliated and unaffiliated with Columbia University.
