Colorado
Colorado Media Project is a nonpartisan philanthropic initiative that funds and supports trusted local news and information across Colorado. Its work includes grantmaking, learning programs, research, convening, and collaboration with news organizations, communities, and funders.
Colorado Media Project was founded in the summer of 2018 in response to the decline of local news, the spread of digital disinformation, and increasing polarization in Colorado communities.
The organization works at the level of the statewide news ecosystem. Its grants and programs focus on closing coverage gaps, strengthening community-centered journalism, improving newsroom sustainability, and supporting collaboration among publishers and funders.
Colorado Media Project posts grant calls and application instructions on its website. Its 2026 Closing Colorado Coverage Gaps program opens applications on July 15, 2026, with an August 14, 2026 deadline. Eligible applicants include qualifying Colorado nonprofit newsrooms, community-facing college newsrooms, and for-profit news organizations with an established nonprofit fiscal sponsor. Requirements vary by program.
Kimberly Spencer, CFRE, is Executive Director. Libbie Randolph is Grantee Relations Manager and manages relationships and application support for grant programs.
