Use of DataThe Cineteca Nacional de Chile was inaugurated on March 7, 2006, as part of the Centro Cultural La Moneda (CCLM) in Santiago, with the mission of safeguarding and disseminating Chile's audiovisual heritage. From March 2025, the Cineteca Nacional became part of the Servicio Nacional del Patrimonio Cultural, marking a significant institutional milestone. The institution is a member of the Federación Internacional de Archivos Fílmicos (FIAF) and the Coordinadora Latinoamericana de Archivos de Imágenes en Movimiento (CLAIM).
The Cineteca Nacional de Chile's online archive platform at cinetecanacional.cl provides free, universal access to more than 700 Chilean films from its holdings. Content spans from the earliest Chilean films to recent productions, covering a wide range of genres, periods, and formats. The platform was initially launched in 2013 with a selection of heritage and iconic Chilean films, and has since grown substantially. An additional digital catalog provides access to the institution's broader holdings of over 23,000 film reels and more than 8,000 video materials.
The archive holds newsreel and documentary materials documenting Chilean political and social history, including materials restored from the Colección Museo Histórico. It has undertaken restoration projects on significant works of Chilean cinema, including films documenting the Pinochet era and other key historical moments.
All films on the online platform are accessible free of charge. Physical consultations of holdings take place at the Cineteca's vaults in Ñuñoa, where three climate-controlled storage facilities, a library, and a digital laboratory are located. The CCLM screening rooms in Santiago offer free public screenings, updated monthly.
