Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting (now The Maine Monitor) - Co-founder (2009)
Waterville Morning Sentinel; Kennebec Journal - Former Publisher
John Christie is a Maine journalist and former newspaper publisher who co-founded the Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, now known as The Maine Monitor, in 2009 alongside fellow journalist Naomi Schalit, to produce nonpartisan investigative journalism for the state. Before founding the nonprofit newsroom, he spent decades in Maine journalism, including as publisher of the Waterville Morning Sentinel and the Kennebec Journal. The Maine Press Association has called Christie and Schalit "pioneers of Maine's nonprofit media landscape," and in 2024 both were inducted into the Maine Press Association Hall of Fame, an honor established in 1998 for those with Maine connections who have made outstanding contributions to the journalism profession.
