Chalkbeat

Founded in 2014, it is a nonprofit news organization dedicated to covering the ongoing efforts to improve schools for all children, particularly those who have historically lacked access to quality education. Chalkbeat also created Votebeat, a project aimed at addressing the shortage of local reporters covering voting and election administration during the 2020 U.S. election. Votebeat continues to provide nonpartisan local reporting through the 2022 midterms, ensuring that decisions and debates about voting policy and electoral systems are well-informed. The organization is led by Editor Carrie Melago and CEO Elizabeth Green.
