Use of DataThe Center for Public Integrity founded in 1989 is an, independent, nonpartisan, and nonprofit organization with a digital news site based in Washington DC. Through investigative journalism, the center examines the systems and circumstances that contribute to inequality. They strive to promote public integrity and counter inequality by holding powerful interests accountable.
Their journalism has shined a light on student homelessness, abuse of women in the trucking industry, the harmful effects of police presence in schools, the dangers of lead in our soil, and the dangers of certain paint chemicals in the workplace.
The center hosts two podcasts: Integrity Out Loud, which highlights their journalism, and The Heist, about America’s racial wealth gap and one woman’s effort to narrow it.
The center also hosts The Accountability Project (TAP), a large database of public records hosted by the center, gives researchers and journalists the tools to search data that might not be easily accessible.
