It was founded by the Canadian Parliament, with its radio services beginning in 1936 and television services in 1952. The CBC is owned by the Canadian Government and operates as a public broadcaster. The corporation owns 27 television stations, 88 radio stations, and one digital-only station. The transition of its TV broadcast stations to digital broadcasting occurred in 2011. The current CEO is Catherine Tait, with Michael Goldbloom serving as the chair.
