Dr. Rebecca Carruthers Den Hoed is an assistant professor of teaching in the School of Journalism, Writing, and Media at the University of British Columbia (UBC), where she chairs the Writing, Research, and Discourse Studies (WRDS) unit. She holds a Ph.D. in Communication Studies, with a focus on critical discourse studies, from the University of Calgary (2017), where she also taught in the Department of Communication, Media, and Film. Before joining UBC in 2020, she was senior instructor in the Academic Writing Program at the University of Lethbridge. Her teaching and research focus on academic discourse, academic writing across the disciplines, research genres and genre instruction, team-based learning in writing courses, collaborative writing, and discourses of science, health and food, including food resilience, food citizenship and food futures. In 2024 she won the UBC Killam Teaching Prize.
