Carmi, Illinois (print, historical)
The Carmi Times was a daily newspaper published in Carmi, Illinois, covering White County communities including Carmi, Grayville, and Norris City.
The modern Carmi Times began publication December 22, 1950, and became a daily (except Sunday) starting September 6, 1986. In 1987, the paper was acquired by Hollinger; GateHouse Media purchased roughly 160 daily and weekly newspapers, including the Carmi Times, from Hollinger in 1997. GateHouse later merged with Gannett in 2019. As of September 2020, the paper's Facebook page directed readers to a new publication, the Carmi Hometown Register (published Tuesdays and Fridays), indicating the Carmi Times title was retired in favor of the Hometown Register brand.
The paper covered White County local news, courts, schools, and community events for more than 65 years under the Carmi Times name.
The Carmi Times name is no longer in active publication; coverage of the area continues under the Carmi Hometown Register.
