Cape Cod Times

The Cape Cod Times is a daily newspaper serving Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket, Massachusetts, published by Gannett from Hyannis.

The paper was first published by J.P. Dunn and Basil Brewer on October 19, 1936, as the Cape Cod Standard-Times, distributed jointly with The New Bedford Standard-Times until the end of 1970. It became an independent daily for Cape Cod on January 1, 1971, and was renamed the Cape Cod Times on September 2, 1975. Ownership passed through Ottaway, Dow Jones, News Corp., and GateHouse Media before GateHouse merged with Gannett in November 2019. In March 2020, Gannett sold the paper's longtime headquarters building at 319 Main Street in Hyannis, which the Times had owned since 1938, and began leasing space there instead. The paper ended its editorial page on May 24, 2020, and stopped Saturday print editions in March 2022; its newsroom staff shrank from 32 to 15 between 2016 and 2022.

The paper's 1997 investigative series "Broken Trust," on contamination of Cape Cod's aquifer from Joint Base Cape Cod, prompted EPA restrictions on military live-fire training there. The Times was named New England Press Association "Newspaper of the Year" in 2008 and Suburban Newspapers of America's "Newspaper of the Year" in 2007.
