Camp Verde, Arizona, USA
The Camp Verde Journal is a weekly newspaper serving Camp Verde, Arizona and the surrounding lower Verde Valley, published by Larson Newspapers.
The paper published its first issue on February 4, 1981, under the name The Journal, founded by editors and publishers Jerry Newton and Dimas Vaquez, who felt the lower Verde Valley lacked a dedicated local voice. The paper has operated from several Camp Verde locations over the decades, moving into its current location at 406 First St. in December 2000. Larson Newspapers also publishes the Cottonwood Journal Extra and the Sedona Red Rock News, giving the company a combined 62-plus years covering the Verde Valley and Sedona.
The paper has maintained continuous local news coverage of Camp Verde for over 40 years, with a stated mission focused solely on local news, distinguishing it from national or state coverage available elsewhere.
