Journalism at Butler is housed in the Eugene S. Pulliam School of Journalism and Creative Media, part of the College of Communication. The school offers majors in journalism, creative media and entertainment, and sports media, with production facilities in the Fairbanks Center for Communication and Technology.
Butler was founded in 1855 as North Western Christian University by Indianapolis attorney Ovid Butler and members of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The university moved to a campus in Irvington, on the east side of Indianapolis, in 1875, and was renamed Butler University in 1877 to honor its founder. It moved to its present campus, the former Fairview Park, in 1928.
