Overview

The Business Observer, published online at BusinessObserverFL.com, is a weekly business newspaper covering Florida's Gulf Coast from Tampa Bay to Naples, published by Observer Media Group.

History

The paper launched in 1997 as the Gulf Coast Business Review, initially covering Sarasota and Manatee counties. In October 2001, it acquired the 51-year-old Tampa Bay Review and expanded into a regional weekly covering Tampa-St. Petersburg through Sarasota; the two publications merged in 2003 under the Business Observer name. The paper opened offices in Fort Myers and Naples in 2005 to cover Southwest Florida's business communities. Its parent, Observer Media Group, was formed in 1995 when Matt and Lisa Walsh purchased the Longboat Observer from founders Ralph and Claire Hunter.

Notable works

The Business Observer is the only weekly publication providing a regional business perspective spanning Polk, Pasco, Hillsborough, Pinellas, Manatee, Sarasota, Charlotte, Lee and Collier counties, and is the leading publisher of public notices on Florida's Gulf Coast.
