History and Founding

The Central Library of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) serves the research, teaching, and learning needs of Bangladesh's oldest and most prestigious engineering institution. BUET traces its origins to 1876 as the Dacca Survey School and gained full university status in 1962. The Central Library is located on the BUET campus in the Palashi area of Dhaka and has grown alongside the institution's academic programs, now holding over 142,913 items of information materials.

Collections and Holdings

The BUET Library Resources page provides access to the library's online catalog (Koha-based OPAC), electronic resources, and the institutional repository. The library holds 125,066 books, 17,847 bound periodicals, and subscribes to 141 current journal titles. The library also subscribes to a range of online databases and e-resources including ACI Journals and other STEM databases. The library maintains an online repository (DSpace-based) of all postgraduate theses and dissertations submitted at BUET. Unless an embargo has been placed, these are freely available for download. Theses are organized by department across 18 departments and multiple institutes, covering civil engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, industrial and production engineering, and other STEM fields.

Access and Usage

The online Resources page (lib.buet.ac.bd) provides access to the library's OPAC for book and periodical searches, a separate DSpace interface for theses and dissertations, and links to subscribed electronic databases. Physical access is available on the BUET campus, Palashi, Dhaka 1205. Researchers and registered BUET members may borrow and use materials in accordance with library policies.
