Layne Bruce is executive director of the Mississippi Press Association, the trade organization for roughly 100 member newspapers and affiliated digital media outlets in Mississippi. He joined MPA in 2006 as director of marketing after 15 years as a reporter, editor, and publisher for newspapers in Mississippi and Kentucky, including serving as publisher of a community newspaper in Olive Branch and DeSoto County, Mississippi, and Home Market Magazine, and leading a newsroom staff of nine at The Daily Times in Glasgow, Kentucky. He became executive director of MPA in 2007, overseeing the association, Mississippi Press Services, and the Mississippi Press Foundation, and serves as clerk of Newspaper Association Managers, Inc., a coalition of newspaper trade associations in the U.S. and Canada. He is a past president of the Mississippi Society of Association Executives and a founding member of the advisory board for the Roy Howard Community Journalism Center at the University of Southern Mississippi.
