Ashley Braun is a science and environmental journalist and fact-checker based in Seattle, Washington, who serves as senior editor of DeSmog, a climate and energy investigative news site. A graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a degree in environmental science, she began her career at the environmental news site Grist.org before working as a science writer and editor for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Her freelance reporting has taken her to the United Nations climate summit in Morocco, Australia's Great Barrier Reef, California's redwood forests and Washington's salmon rivers, and has appeared in publications including Smithsonian Magazine, The Atlantic, Slate, Science, Scientific American, Discover, bioGraphic, Hakai Magazine, Natural History Magazine and Audubon. She also fact-checks for publications including Science News and The New York Times. Braun is a member of the Society of Environmental Journalists and the National Association of Science Writers, and is a former president of the Northwest Science Writers Association.
