Allegany, New York, USA
The Bona Venture (known on campus as "The BV") is the student newspaper of St. Bonaventure University, a private Franciscan university in Allegany, New York, serving the university and the neighboring city of Olean. It is the university's only weekly print publication, released free on Fridays throughout the academic year with 26 issues annually, run entirely by undergraduate volunteers with faculty advisement.
The Bona Venture has been printed continually since 1926, remaining a weekly newspaper except for a brief semi-weekly experiment in the early 1980s and budget-driven cuts in 2014. It launched an online edition in 2006. The paper has won the Associated Collegiate Press Pacemaker Award numerous times, most recently in 1994. Notable alumni editors-in-chief include Lee Coppola, later dean of St. Bonaventure's Jandoli School of Journalism and Mass Communication, and John Hanchette, a Pulitzer Prize winner; the university counts six Pulitzer Prize recipients among its alumni overall.
