David W. Binet is a Canadian executive who has led Woodbridge, the Thomson family's investment holding company and the controlling shareholder of Thomson Reuters. Before entering business, Binet worked as a reporter and editor for The Canadian Press. He later earned a law degree from McGill University, a BA from Queen's University, and a graduate degree in journalism from Northwestern University, and practiced as a partner at the Canadian law firm Torys LLP, focusing on mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance. He joined Woodbridge in 1999, rising to chief operating officer before being named president effective January 1, 2013, succeeding W. Geoffrey Beattie, and becoming chief executive in 2013. That same year he joined the Thomson Reuters board of directors, where he later served as deputy chairman, stepping down from the board in 2023 after a decade of service. In 2009, he was appointed chairman of the Thomson Reuters Foundation, the news organization's charitable arm, succeeding Dick Harrington. Binet is also a director of The Globe and Mail, Canada's national newspaper, and has served as chairman of the National Ballet of Canada.
