The Bhutan Journal of Research and Development (BJRD) is a multidisciplinary academic journal published by the Office of the Vice Chancellor of the Royal University of Bhutan (RUB). Its first issue appeared in 2007, though publication was suspended for approximately four years before resuming consistently from 2012 onwards. Since then, the journal has been published biannually (in May and November) without interruption. The BJRD is hosted on the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, which serves as its online archive.
The BJRD's OJS archive contains all issues from 2007 and from 2012 to the present, comprising peer-reviewed articles across the social sciences, physical and biological sciences, and humanities, all relevant to the Kingdom of Bhutan. Notable thematic areas include education, public health, environmental science, economics, and cultural studies. A special issue published in 2015 was predominantly devoted to science, technology, and engineering, with major contributions from Japanese institutions. The journal follows double-blind peer review and accepts theoretical and empirical research, short communications, research notes, review articles, and book reviews.
All content is freely accessible online through the OJS platform at bjrd.rub.edu.bt. There are no author fees, subscription fees, or hidden costs. Manuscripts for submission should be addressed to bjrd.ovc@rub.edu.bt. The journal's primary audience includes scholars, academicians, policymakers, graduate students, and others interested in Bhutan-focused research.
