Use of DataThe Bhutan Health Journal (BHJ) was first published and launched on 11 November 2015, in honor of the 60th birth anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, Jigme Singye Wangchuck. It is a joint initiative of the Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan (KGUMSB) and the Bhutan Foundation. BHJ is Bhutan's first and, for a significant period, only medical journal. Dr Phurb Dorji served as the inaugural Editor-in-Chief from 2015. The journal is published biannually by the Office of the Vice Chancellor of KGUMSB, with issues appearing in May and November.
The BHJ's online archive (hosted on the Open Journal Systems / OJS platform) contains all issues from its founding in 2015 to the present. The journal is a peer-reviewed, open-access publication covering clinical medicine, para-clinical sciences, medical education, nursing and midwifery, traditional medicine, public health, health policy, planning and financing, hospital management, and health social sciences. The journal has been indexed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) since November 2023 and in Scopus since April 2024, and is included in the Research4Life content portal.
All content is freely available online through the OJS platform at bhj.com.bt. The journal accepts submissions year-round. It follows the publication ethics guidelines of COPE, CSE, WAME, and ICMJE. All expenses are covered by KGUMSB and the Royal Government of Bhutan, and there are no author fees or subscription costs. The archive is accessible without registration.
