Pittsfield, Massachusetts (digital)
Berkshires in Brief is a free daily email newsletter published by The Berkshire Eagle, the daily newspaper of record for Berkshire County, Massachusetts, based in Pittsfield.
The Berkshire Eagle traces its roots to the Western Star, a weekly founded in Stockbridge, Massachusetts in 1789, and began daily publication as The Berkshire Evening Eagle on May 9, 1892, after Kelton Bedell Miller purchased the weekly Berkshire County Eagle in 1891. The Miller family owned the paper for more than a century until selling it, along with sister papers in Vermont, to MediaNews Group in 1995. In 2016, a group of local Berkshire County investors purchased the Eagle and its Vermont sister papers from Digital First Media, returning it to local ownership. Berkshires in Brief is one of the daily and weekly newsletters the Eagle distributes as part of that locally owned operation.
The newsletter summarizes headlines from The Berkshire Eagle's coverage of Berkshire County news, alongside the paper's other affiliated publications, which include The B quarterly magazine and the Berkshire Business Journal.
Berkshires in Brief is available free by signing up through berkshireeagle.com; full Eagle articles linked from the newsletter are subject to the paper's digital subscription paywall.
