Bell Canada is Canada's incumbent telecommunications provider and a wholly owned subsidiary of BCE Inc., a publicly traded Canadian holding company.
Bell Canada is owned by BCE Inc., which is publicly traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange and New York Stock Exchange (TSX/NYSE: BCE). Ownership is broadly held by institutional investors, with the largest holders each owning roughly 4 to 6 percent; no single shareholder holds a controlling stake.
Bell Canada was incorporated in 1880 as The Bell Telephone Company of Canada. In 1983, it was reorganized under a new parent holding company, Bell Canada Enterprises Inc., renamed BCE Inc. in 1988.
