Kolkata, West Bengal, India (print/digital)
Bartaman is a Bengali-language daily newspaper published from Kolkata, India, by Bartaman Pvt. Ltd., and is the second most widely circulated Bengali newspaper in India after Anandabazar Patrika.
The paper was founded on December 7, 1984 by Barun Sengupta, a former Anandabazar Patrika journalist, after he left that paper to start his own venture; it was his second publication under the Bartaman name, following an earlier 1957 weekly he had launched with Forward Bloc leader Hemanta Kumar Bose. From its founding, Bartaman focused on giving greater voice to South Bengal's districts, which Sengupta felt were underrepresented in Kolkata-centric media. Sengupta led the paper until his death on June 19, 2008.
Bartaman publishes simultaneous daily editions from Kolkata, Siliguri, Bardhaman, and Midnapore, alongside the weekly Saptahik Bartaman family magazine, the monthly Sukhi Grihakon, and the health magazine Sarir o Sastha.
The paper is available through print circulation and, since April 2002, an online e-paper edition at bartamanpatrika.com, along with a mobile app.
